Last year those lovely people at Mattel sent us a BOOMco Rapid Madness Blaster to review and last week they got in-touch to ask if we’d like to do another review.
So the other day the post man arrived with a big juicy box filled with one of Hot Wheels new 2015 sets, the Hot Wheels Super Speed Blastway which is part of the HW Race range. They also sent us a fantastic Zara Hot Wheels T-Shirt too, more about that in the next blog post.
Rosie and Charlie were seriously excited, Hot Wheels are very popular in our house, we already have two smaller car tracks and oodles of Hot Wheels cars too, so we had plenty to try out on this new Hot Wheels Super Speed Blastway set.

Me and Rosie opened up the box and started getting all the bits out, the box contains loads of bits and bobs but the included instructions guide you through how it all goes together and after a few mins everything was clicked in place or stuck in the right position.
The set comes with one car so we went to our car box and grabbed a few handfuls of Hot Wheels so we could have a proper go of the Hot Wheels Super Speed Blastway.
Straight away Rosie (who is 2 and a half) got the idea and was merrily bashing away on the triggers firing the cars up the track.
The Hot Wheels Super Speed Blastway In Action
So the idea of the Hot Wheels Super Speed Blastway, (unlike all the other tracks we have tried, which are just for one car, ie single track) is that you can have a game with a friend to see who’s car can bash out the flags. What happens when you launch the car, by bashing the blue trigger, is your car shoots up the track and round the bend and back into your car shooter.
If you have launched your car with enough oomph then your car might have enough power to pop out one of your flags (You have three each, green or red), well I say flags, one is a mechanic one is a chap holding up a timing board and the third is an actual flag. See this action shot below!
Rosie, being two and a half did struggle a little to launch the cars and make the flags pop out, but to be honest that’s a good thing as it will keep here interested in the task at hand!
The flags are easy enough to put back in and your children (and you) will soon get the hang of it. One cool function we found out after reading the booklet is that the blue section on each track can be opened and you can attach other road pieces so rather than the cars going round the loop they shoot off up the track. Now this is an ace function, but I have to say it didn’t work as well as we would have liked as the cars have to make a slight turn and it can somewhat dampen their power.
Attaching the shooters directly to other tracks is possible and makes for some very rapid loop the looping!
Rosie’s favorite this is definitly trying to add as many cars as she can to the launchers…
Here is the Hot Wheels Super Speed Blastway is all its glory! With many added cars from Rosie! She likes seeing how many she can launch in one go…
Hot Wheels Super Speed Blastway Official Info
Kids can now be the master of their own track and build their very own Hot Wheels system! They can keep the high speed and competitive action going by connecting to other tracks with the Super Speed Blastway! If you can dream it, you can build it!
Super Speed Blastway
Who has the skills and the speed to cross the finish line first? Kids can send their Hot Wheels car flying on the Super Speed Blastway, and battle it out against their competition until the finish flag decides who the ultimate champion is! Racers launch up towards the grandstands so fast, they knock off the pit crew one at a time with every lap, until the car in the lead activates the checkered flag for a grand victory.
Kids will love the side-by-side racing action controlled by two slam launchers. The grandstands feature pop off characters which are released after the completion of each lap around the speedway, and the finish flag appears at the end of the race to reward the winner!
