LEGO Chima Craggers Command Ship - Simon's Review
When I first heard of the new LEGO Legends Of Chima range from LEGO I was instantly intrigued, well to be honest I am with most LEGO new releases, I can't hide it I love the stuff. The flagship model in this new first wave of LEGO chima sets is the LEGO Chima Craggers Command Ship, and seriously its utterly magnificent.
LEGO have done a fine job with this range, I'll be adding all the sets onto the site over the next few weeks so you will be able to see for yourself, first up though let take a look at this set. Its essentially a huge boat that features loads and loads of cool features I just know kids (and adults 😉 ) are going to love.
Lets hear what LEGO has to say about this set...
The ultimate swamp battle is on. Leonidas and Longtooth are making a jet-bike escape with the Croc tribe’s CHI, but it takes more than that to outsmart croc prince Cragger.
Fire up Cragger's Command Ship and go after them! Activate the huge snapping mouth, swipe the croc tail and fire the CHI-powered missiles!
Call in their Raven ally Rawzom to track them from the air or to swoop down from above and catch those CHI-nabbing cats! Then, deploy the stealthy mini boats and high-flying croc helicopter to stop them from ever leaving the swamp.
Includes 6 minifigures with assorted weapons.
The LEGO Chima Craggers Command Ship is aimed a children aged from around eight upwards, the box says to age fourteen, but I've never understood why thy bother with an upper limit because LEGO knows full well that there are loads of Adult fans of LEGO (AFOL as they are known!) out there that love these sets, but realistically if your thinking about getting this for your son or daughter, I would say that most children would enjoy it.
My son is five and I think he would be more than capable of building this mostly on his own, but I know that everyone's building ability is different.
Whats in the LEGO Chima Craggers Command Ship Box?
In the box you will get six Minifigures that are all new from the Chima range, Cragger, Crominus, Crooler, Rawzom, Leonidas and Lennox.
They all feature the ingenious new LEGO head pieces, that are essentially just hats for the normal LEGO heads, with eye holes. The effect though is great and it brings a whole new dimension to LEGO figures and I'm sure we will see many more figures in the future that follow suit with this new LEGO Chima Style.
There are 609 pieces in the set, which does seem a little low for a set of this stonkinly big size, but then most of the LEGO ship sets feature hulls that are made up of quite big pieces. Infact you will be happy to know that like many of the Playmobil Ships this new LEGO ship features a sealed hull, what I mean is that is will actually float just like a real ship, that is ace!
This set is utterly dripping in features, of course you get the huge Craggers Command Ship, but thats just half the tale, because the main ship is made up of sections that come of and are smaller crafts in their own right, there is a huge helicopter on the back that can take of into the skies, up the front are two smaller craft that can launch into the water when needed.
There are two red domed cabins for your minifigures to sit and the whole ship looks just like a giant croc mouth, its brilliant.
The Mouth section of the Command Ship actually opens like a real croc mouth which is great, I imagine many a Minifigure will meet its demise in those fearsome jaws!
I expect this new range to definitely appeal to little boys and of course many girls too, as well as the meny million of Adult LEGO fans too 😉 The Whole LEGO Ledgends of Chima range has a feel of the LEGO Ninjago range and many of the styles of building are similar in the Chima range. With loads of vehicles in one, a huge ship and loads of minifigures this is in my opinion utterly dripping in play value for your children, I'm giving it 10 out of 10 and I fully expect it to be winning some awards this year because its flipping brilliant.
The only thing you will need to be really careful of is making sure none of the little parts go down the plug hole, because this to is most definitely going in the bath!
